Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, managed by Healogics, Inc., provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing.

Patient getting her arm wrappedThat's where we can help. With advanced treatments including hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), debridement, negative pressure therapies, bio-engineered tissues and bio-synthetics, plus dressing selection, special wound care shoes, and patient education, people with non-healing and chronic wounds now have a place to turn.

Our program uses an interdisciplinary model of care, including infectious-disease management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetes education, and other areas to address total patient health.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

HBOT increases the amount of oxygen to wounds, enabling them to heal from the inside. It is used for wounds that have not responded to traditional treatments, such as diabetic foot ulcers, radiation injuries to tissue and bone and some types of vascular disorders resulting in poor blood circulation. Patients receiving treatments watch television while relaxing on a bed encased in a large see-through plastic shell, as they are surrounded by 100 percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure.

Under hyperbaric conditions, oxygen molecules in the patient's red blood cells become reduced in size to more easily dissolve into the liquid portion of the blood and be transported throughout the body to speed healing. During this non-invasive procedure, the only sensation patients may experience is a slight pressure in the ears, as on an airplane, when the pressure changes.

Treatments are typically covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans. Northwest Wound Care also welcomes self-referrals.
