NWTHS Participates in Healogics Wound Care Awareness Week
AMARILLO, TX — Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, a member of the Healogics® network, is helping to the raise awareness of chronic wounds. The Fifth Annual Wound Care Awareness Week was held from June 4 to June 8. One of 700+ Healogics-managed Centers, Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy offers advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds. Wound care consultants and program directors across the nation dedicated the entire week to educating physicians, patients and the general public about the chronic wound epidemic and advanced wound care solutions.
According to the National Institutes of Health, it is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.5 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases caused by conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possible amputation of the affected limb.
“Chronic and non-healing wounds affect a large part of our population," said Amanda Hartman, MD, Medical Director of Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. "Many patients and their providers are unaware of the dangers of non-healing wounds, including infections of soft tissue or bone and loss of limb due to amputation. In addition, many people do not know what options for treatment are available to them. As an advanced wound care center with many treatment modalities, including specialized dressings, compression, tissue grafts, skin substitutes and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, we are proud to work with our patients and their providers to achieve excellent healing outcomes.”
People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
